Tbilisi, Slowly

Tbilisi 2 days from €340 per person / day

Two days in a city that has been burned down twenty-nine times and rebuilt every time slightly differently. Wooden balconies, brick sulphur domes and Soviet concrete inside one walk, and the best natural wine list between Vienna and Beirut.

  • A private sulphur room in Abanotubani, before breakfast
  • Natural wine with the person who made it
  • Old town balconies with the architect putting them back

Day by day

  1. Day 01

    Sulphur, brick and wine

A private room in the Abanotubani baths at nine, before the city is up. Breakfast after, not before. Then the old town with an architect who is putting its balconies back - which is a different walk from the one the guidebooks describe. Natural wine at six with the person who made it.

  2. Day 02

    Concrete and the flea market

Chronicle of Georgia at sunrise, empty, sixteen pillars and nobody else. Then Soviet modernism by car: the Ministry of Highways standing on its own legs, Bank of Georgia, the Palace of Rituals. Dry Bridge market at noon for other people's history. A chef's table to finish.

What is included

  • Your tamada both days, on foot and by car
  • The private bath room, the architect, the winemaker
  • Breakfasts, the wine evening, the chef's table

What is not

  • Flights
  • Travel insurance
  • Whatever you buy at Dry Bridge, which will be more than you planned

The practical part

Where you sleep

Stamba or Rooms Tbilisi, both in the same courtyard, one night

When it works
All year. In July and August it is 35 degrees at three in the afternoon, so the walking moves to the morning and the evening and the middle of the day is yours.
The pace
Walking, mostly. One short drive on the second morning.
